One year after suffering season-ending back injuries from a nasty crash at the track formerly known as Sears Point Raceway,
Will Power returned to Sonoma as the IndyCar points leader and started from pole, led the most laps and won easily over Scott Dixon and Mr. Ashley Judd. Briscoe and Helio were fourth and fifth in front of Justin Wilson, Tony Kanaan, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Graham Rahal and Alex Lloyd. Marco was 12th, Simona 13th and Danica 16th.
It was an extremely boring race.
At Road America, the No. 8 Drayson Racing finally won an ALMS race and in dramatic style no less, taking the lead on the last lap to beat the No. 6 Porsche, the most-popular-by-a-mile No. 1 Acura and the No. 16 Lola/Mazda. Fourth and fifth went to LMPC Oreca/Chevy's followed by six GT2 cars and another LMPC.
I can't wait for more prototypes in ALMS. And I wish I wouldn't have started the No. 37 P1.
There's only one more round in the Super 7 Sweep regular season and the competition for overall honors is still tighter than the economy. Four teams have a realistic chance at catching Team Skidmarks and another four aren't really out of the hunt if strange things happen at Montreal, Spa, Mosport and Chicagoland this weekend -- depending upon which teams go for darkhorses and which ones play the favorites.
Regardless, by this time next week we'll know who won the Steve Kinser Outlaw r/c Sprint Car from CustomWorks, autographed by both Steve Kinser and Tony Stewart.
Remember, the Charge for the Championship game starts next week with even more great prizes -- including the Fanatec Rennsport Cockpit, including steering wheel and pedals (sorry, you have to have your own computer and monitor), an iRacing.com VIP membership, a rare Forza Motorsports 3 X Box 360, a new 2010 F1 Xbox game, cool collectibles from GMP and Motorsports Authentics and lots more. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your co-workers!
